Mendocino Permaculture’s 34th Annual Winter Abundance Workshop

Saturday February 4, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
at the Fairgrounds in Boonville

Seed, Scion & Cutting Exchange with Hands-on Fruit Tree Grafting

Admission, classes, seeds, cuttings, scion wood – All Free

Free classes all day on tree & vine propagation; how to grow your own food; how to do seed saving of all kinds of food plants. You can purchase fruit tree rootstocks cheaply here and then graft your own trees from our free scions. Come spend the day with local green thumbs who understand the unique climate zones and soils of our bioregion. You can purchase an inexpensive organic lunch, snacks and beverages at the event. You can also try out and purchase a grafting knife. Please bring your love of plants, and enjoy our daylong celebration of Abundance.

AV Goat Festival

Mark your calendars for the 3rd Annual Anderson Valley Goat Festival! 10am to 4pm

It will once again be held in conjunction with the AV Unity Club’s Wildflower Show on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Boonville Fairgrounds. While this is a free event, we welcome donations to help cover our costs. Or participate in our silent auction! See AV Foodshed table for details.

1:30 – Performance by Joe Craven!

2:00 – Birria Cook-off: Traditional Mexican Goat Stew. Buy a bowl to be a judge and try each entry. Yum!

2:30 – Live music by the Joe Blow Band!

Classes and Workshops (Times subject to change):

10:00 – Home Dairy Basics: An overview of goat care basics from barn building to milking, followed by an open round table discussion. Presented by Renee Wilson and Rebekah Carson.

10:30 – Making Goat Yogurt and Kefir: Join Cindy Wilder and Abeja Hummel and dive into the creamy goodness of dairy ferments.

11:00 – Pennyroyal Farm Tour:  Take a tour of the creamery, milking parlor and solar-powered barn to meet the animals, and to learn the methods behind their handcrafted wines and cheeses. Tour is at Pennyroyal Farm at 11am – 14930 HWY 128 Boonville (space is limited to 15 people, first come, first serve)

11:30 – Raising Goats in the Oak Woodlands: join Abeja Hummel in a discussion about how goats can be used for restoring native habitats.

1:30 – Herbal Goat Care: Learn to care for your herd with medicinal herbs. Presented by Tim Ward

2:00 Soap Making: Learn the art of making soap with goat milk. Creamy and luxurious! Taught by Alison Rickert.

2:30 – Cheese Making: The greatest gift a goat can give: cheese. Learn how to make it at home!
